Second Capacity Building Workshop to the Government of Indonesia’s users on EO products for Disaster Risk Reduction

The Asian Development Bank sponsored a second capacity building workshop held in Indonesia (Jakarta and Palu) since 27 to 31 January 2020 with the aim to scale the skills of technical staff of relevant Indonesian Ministries and agencies on the Earth Observation web tools and the second batch of services provided by the EO4SD DRR project.

They consisted in the continuation of the terrain deformation monitoring and assessment of the progress of reconstruction works in Sulawesi after 1 year the earthquake event, in support to the Emergency Assistance for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project (EARR) and Enhance Water Security Investment Project (EWSIP).

The outcomes of the services and theoretical foundation of the processes were presented during the workshop along with hands-on training sessions of the ESA cloud-based tool Geohazards Exploitation Platform (GEP) and organized field visits were to validate the results of the damage status on the Gumbasa main irrigation channel.

ADB stakeholders and Indonesian users could perceive how the tangible outcomes of the provided EO services can support the reconstruction tasks in Central Sulawesi and expressed their interest to continue the ESA-ADB collaboration in the future with the continuation of EO services and training sessions.
